Here is a little information about some of the wines we have selected to be in our online range…
Miss Lucy – £15.49
‘Miss Lucy’ is a unique blend of sauvignon blanc, Semillon and Pinot Gris from Springfield Estate in Robertson, South Africa. It bursts with fresh citrus and grapefruit flavours and has an ample mouth feel whilst being remarkably moderate in alcohol at 12.5% ABV.
The family-run Springfield Estate Winery goes against the grain in order to make sure the drinking experience of their wines is perfect, whilst remaining sustainable and producing the wine as naturally as possible. Their wines are all about the rocky, unforgiving terroir of Robertson and stand head and shoulders above a lot of producers for sheer quality.
This South African white wine is a perfect match for scallops, prawns, fresh langoustines and other shellfish as well as fish stews and soups.
Navjas Crianza – £10.99
Navajas Crianza is a vibrant Tempranillo made by Bodegas Navajas in the Rioja region of Spain. It is soft round and oaky, which makes it a very approachable red wine – some might say “easy to drink”! Beautiful vanilla flavours and vibrant red fruits make this wine perfect with meat for example beef stews, cottage pies or game. All of the red wines from this winemaker are 80-85% Tempranillo with Grancha and Mazuelo (AKA Carignan) making up the balance.
Bodegas Navajas is very much a family run winery. It was founded in 1918, but in 1983 the Navajas family took it over completely and since then there has been a significant improvement in the quality of the wine!
Stelle D’Italia – £9.99
Stelle d’Italia is a lively crisp (vegan friendly!) Prosecco from the Veneto region in Italy. It has a delicate lemony character and an aromatic dry finish. It is delicious on its own as an aperitif or with canapés, bars in Venice serve it by the glass with ‘Ciccheti’ (tapas) – a classic Ciccheti dish is small portions of salt cod on polenta!
The Prosecco grapes are harvested from vineyards near venice and pressed gently to make a high quality and freshly acidic must. The grapes then settle for around 12 hours, after this, the clear juice is fermented to make a still wine – sugar is then added and a secondary fermentation takes place – forming the bubbles!
There are other wines on the website to choose from – and MANY more if you can make a trip into our Hyndland Road shop! Have a browse online here.
